The Graham Dent Trio

At the George Inn, Tiffield, Northants - 9 March 2013

Graham Dent - piano
David Williams - guitar
Geoff Cook - bass

The Gayton Jazz Appreciation Society meets most months at The George for presentations by members of their choice of music and twice a year for live jazz.

To provide the first live session of 2013, we were delighted to welcome back Graham Dent, who previously played for us in January 2011 with Rob Evans on bass and  Steve Laffy on drums - an excellent session enjoyed by all present and put on to CD by Graham.

On this occasion, Graham brought David Williams, guitar?, with whom he formed a close musical relationship about three years ago, and Geoff Cook, bass. Most members have come to know Graham as an exceptionally fine musician and a few of us have had the pleasure of hearing David previously but Geoff was a new face for us.

It was a delight to hear these sensitive musicians playing with such mutual empathy and providing us with inventive, melodious and rewarding jazz. The programme included such well-known, and well-liked, standards as Stella By Starlight and Lover Man, and several of Graham’s own compositions, including a new number, For Bethany, created for his latest grandchild.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening of ‘cool and smooth’ jazz in a pleasant atmosphere, where the audience listen to and appreciate the music.
