Richard Exall's Shooting Stars are a 6-piece band, and are available for concerts, functions and public events throughout the country.
The Shooting Stars were formed in 2008 from a nucleus of musicians from the Big Chris Barber Band. Collectively they share a love and respect of all forms of jazz but have their roots firmly planted in the vintage, golden period of jazz history.
The band benefits from it's unique position of being a relatively young group of
musicians with an extremely deep and varied wealth of experience, and between them have probably played at every major concert venue and jazz event in Europe.
The Shooting Stars are as at home playing the beautiful melodies and stomping jazz from the 20's 30's and 40's as they are playing mainstream jazz, swing and jump jive, where they exploit the bands virtuosity, with exciting solos and tight ensemble passages.

Rachael Johnson is a Jazz pianist from Kettering, Northants. She has studied Music since the age of 6, completing all the classical grades with ABRSM (performance in Guitar and Piano, as well as Musical Theory Grades), she also took part in big bands and group ensembles throughout secondary school. Rachael was then introduced and became passionate about Jazz, she pursued the subject of Jazz piano at Middlesex University in London and was taught by some of London's top Jazz pianists including Gareth Williams and Nikki Iles.
After a year of studying at Middlesex, she thought that that particular course did not focus enough on her instrument and did not encourage personal style, whilst continuing Jazz Improv tuition with Gareth and Nikki, Rachael decided to study and become an associate of the London College Of Music (A.L.C.M), this was to be her first degree in which was entirely her own work.
After successfully completing this degree she continued working with her teachers in London and formed her own Quartet which included an abundance of well known British Jazz musicians. She also performed as a soloist in top London hotels on Park Lane, at many private functions and at renowned restaurants and cocktail bars throughout the UK.
Whilst building her repertoire and valuable contacts, Rachael was given (by her own merit) the next degree exam free of charge by the Chief examiner who was also her examiner from her previous degree. She took this opportunity and received another degree making her a Licentiate (L.L.C.M), which again was self taught.
After completing all her exams, Rachael became a private teacher and also took part in workshops which were organised by the London College Of Music in which she was involved in helping qualified teachers who were struggling with the college's Jazz syllabus and how to teach the syllabus to their own students.
Rachael then ventured to Melbourne, Australia where she lived and worked for 6 months as a gigging musician and Jazz teacher. While she was there she played in five or the very well known Jazz clubs including Dizzys and Uptown Jazz cafe.
Her band ranges from a duo to a septet and performs her own compositions, as well as Jazz standards. She is also a private teacher and freelance solo Pianist.
